There is a certain kind of magic that happens when time slows and the world feels beautifully far away. During our two-night stay at Chalets at Blackheath, that magic seemed to hover in the air from the moment we arrived. As a close friend of owner Angela O’Connell, I had long sensed the intention behind every detail she poured into the property, yet only experiencing it in person can reveal just how soul stirring her vision truly is. Now part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection, the Chalets feel like sanctuaries crafted with a deep respect for nature and for the guests who come seeking quiet connection.
Inside our Chalet the outside world drifted away. Gentle natural textures, soft light and thoughtful design elements created a feeling of effortless warmth. The bathroom felt like a private retreat with its generous double showers and deep soaking tub, while the fireplace cast a welcoming glow that became the heart of our evenings.
Champagne became the thread that wove so many moments together. We enjoyed a bottle of Billecart-Salmon Sous Bois, a champagne whose wood-inspired label and oak-tinted expression seemed destined for the Blue Mountains. Whether savoured overlooking the sweeping beauty of Evans Lookout or enjoyed later beside the fire with a cheese and charcuterie platter curated by the Chalet, it felt perfectly in tune with the landscape around us.
Our days drifted between adventure and the serene. We wandered through the lush depths of the Grand Canyon walk, soaked in the calming warmth of the nearby Agni Bathhouse in Blackheath and returned to long, nourishing breakfasts served in the Library where morning light danced across timber and stone.
What lingered most was not any single moment but the gentle way they all intertwined. Time with each other, the embrace of the Blue Mountains, the quiet luxury of the Chalets and the pleasure of a beautiful champagne created an escape that felt deeply restorative. Chalets at Blackheath is a place where stories unfold naturally and where the simple act of being together becomes something extraordinary.
