Some of the most exceptional experiences in the Champagne region are firmly closed to the public, being the domain of wine professionals and media only. Fortunately for champagne enthusiasts, this is not the case at the Perrier-Jouët Cellier Belle Époque, which welcomes all visitors and must surely be the world’s most beautiful Champagne Bar.
It is a luxurious venue on the glamorous and historic Avenue de Champagne in Épernay. The Cellier provides an elegant setting, with both indoor and alfresco options, to enjoy the champagnes of Maison Perrier-Jouët. The inside bar is adorned with finishings that reflect the brand’s Belle Époque heritage, offering visitors the chance to taste some of the house’s finest cuvées in a refined setting. But on sunny day in Spring or Summer, it is difficult to imagine a more idyllic place than the outdoor garden terrace.
Visitors may choose a seat at the bar to experience a Perrier-Jouët tasting flight, or order a coveted bottle of Belle Époque which is served theatrically with a “tree” of stemware to enjoy the cuvée. For the non-purists, there are attractive champagne cocktails, all made with the base of a Perrier-Jouët cuvées.
There is also the Atelier space where visitors can reserve a place for a tasting workshop, focusing on the Art of Blending or the Art of Vintage. In the latter, the latest vintage releases of Belle Époque (Blanc, Rosé and Blanc de Blancs) can be compared in a horizontal tasting flight.
And as champagne is known for stimulating the appetite, there is a selection of champagne-friendly dishes that can be taken inside or on the terrace. On our last visit, we enjoyed Local Potato Crispy Millefeuille and a Marinated Salmon Ceviche with a Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque 2013 vintage.
It’s a memorable experience that highlights the craftsmanship and history of Maison Perrier-Jouët. Want to recreate your experience at home? There is a delightful boutique on site with the range of champagnes, stemware and ice buckets.]
